The area around Livadia is known for its valleys, full of fields where some of the most flavorful fruits of Greece are produced. In Greece, one of the main products of fruits is, without a doubt, the variety of jams and marmalades, as they are considered a staple of the traditional Greek breakfast.
We travelled across the valleys in search of the most exquisite jams and that is when we came across a small village in the municipality of Orchomenos. The route leading to the village cut through the cotton fields and was filled with fig and mulberry trees. Cherry plums and acacias embellished the banks of the canals, while orchards and apricot trees peaked through.
When we finally arrived, under the pomegranate trees, we found “To Dokimastiri tou Agroti” (The Farmer’s Tasting Room). There, women from the village use the wild fruit to create pioneering combinations for the most interesting and flavorful jam we have ever tasted.
“We use everything that grows in the Kopaida – and everything traditional in Greek cuisine, but with our own little twist,” they told us.
All their products are unique and worth a try, but two flavors stood out for us: pomegranate with myrtle fruit and plum with local red wine.
